Mumbai: Bollywood’s famous actress and dancer Nora Fatehi is now facing legal trouble.
Private airline ‘Dunes Aviation’ has filed a defamation case of Rs 3 crore against the actress.
The company has alleged that Nora’s light-hearted comments on social media have damaged the reputation of its company and caused a loss of crores of rupees.
Dunes Aviation has alleged that calling its chartered aircraft ‘Lego aircraft’ and ‘toy aircraft’ on social media has damaged the reputation of the company.
The case was filed in the court of Senior Civil Judge R. Agarwal, Gandhinagar, and the hearing will be held on September 25.
According to the lawsuit, Nora Fatehi filmed videos inside a Cessna Citation CJ2 aircraft while flying from Mumbai to Jaipur last December. She described the aircraft as a ‘small’, a ‘toy’ and a ‘Lego plane’ and shared the videos on her Instagram account.
Dunes Aviation has alleged that Nora Fatehi, who has over 46 million followers, has had her comments cause flight bookings to be cancelled and have severely impacted the company’s business.
In the lawsuit filed in April this year, the company said the actress’s comments were “reckless, irresponsible and made without any technical knowledge, verification or factual basis”.
The company said that Nora’s large number of followers has caused serious reputational damage, loss of credibility and commercial loss to its company. It alleged that there was a 15-20% drop in bookings and an increase in the number of cancellations.
Dunes Aviation clarified that its aircraft met the general standards and was of suitable size for the journey. It was also certified by the DGCA, airworthy and operated legally under a valid NSOP.
Meanwhile, the company has sought Rs 3 crore in compensation and has requested the court to immediately remove Nora’s statements about the aircraft or all related content from social media and to issue a public clarification from the actress.
