Moodubidire: Sneha, a student of Alva’s Pre-University College, has become the first student to be admitted to the newly established Alva’s Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMSRC), securing an MBBS seat under the Government quota.
The achievement is significant for Sneha, who comes from a financially modest family in Karkala and pursued her pre-university education at Alva’s under its Merit Adoption Scheme. She scored 506 out of 720 in NEET.
Sneha, a resident of Kuntalpady in Karkala, completed her SSLC at JC’s High School with 590 marks. She subsequently joined Alva’s Pre-University College under the Merit Adoption Scheme, which enabled her to pursue quality education despite the financial limitations of her family.
Her father, Manjunath, has been working as a driver at Srinivas University, Mangaluru, for the past 12 years, while her mother, Vanaja, is a homemaker. Her younger sister, Sahana, is studying in Class VII at Karkala.
‘My father wanted me to become a doctor’
Sneha said becoming a doctor had been her father’s dream and that the academic support and training she received at Alva’s helped her prepare for NEET.
“My father’s dream was that I should become a doctor. I worked hard towards it. The quality education, training and guidance I received at Alva’s gave me the confidence to prepare for NEET. The adoption scheme was a major support for my family, given our financial background,” she said.
She said she plans to pursue specialization in cardiology and serve people, particularly those who are unable to afford quality healthcare.
‘Financial constraints should not limit a deserving student’
Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr. M. Mohan Alva congratulated Sneha and said the achievement reflected the objective of providing educational opportunities to deserving students irrespective of their financial circumstances.
“Our objective is to ensure that financial circumstances do not become a barrier to the education of a deserving student. Providing quality education to talented students like Sneha is one of the purposes of our adoption scheme. It is particularly gratifying that a student of our PU College has become the first MBBS student of our new medical college. I congratulate Sneha and her parents and wish her success in her medical career and in serving society,” Dr. Alva said.
Sneha said Dr. Mohan Alva’s work in the field of education and social service had inspired her. She hopes to contribute to education after becoming a doctor by supporting students who require assistance.
“I consider Dr. Mohan Alva a role model. In the future, after becoming a doctor, I would like to help students who need support and provide opportunities in education and cultural activities,” she said.
Keeps cultural interests alive
Alongside academics, Sneha has developed a keen interest in Yakshagana, particularly the Tenkuthittu tradition of Bhagavatike. She has performed at several programmes and received training from Mahesh Kanyadi. She is currently pursuing advanced training in Bhagavatike.
She has also completed the Junior-level examination in Carnatic music with 90% marks.
Sneha said she intends to continue her association with Yakshagana while pursuing MBBS. She believes that traditional arts help young people remain connected to their cultural roots while broadening their understanding and personality.
Sneha was felicitated by Dr. M. Mohan Alva following her admission. AIMSRC Dean Dr. Mahabala Shetty, Alva’s Pre-University College Principal Mohammed Sadakath, and her parents Manjunath and Vanaja were present.
