Kolkata: 100 crude bombs found at MC worker’s house

Kolkata, April 27: A few days before the second phase of voting for the West Bengal assembly elections, in a shocking incident, 100 crude bombs were found at the house of a person said to be a TMC worker in Bhangarh of South 24 Parganas district.

Police on Sunday seized around 100 crude bombs, an official said.

The explosives were seized during a search operation at the residence of Rafiqul Islam based on specific information, he said.

“A strong message has been given to the Kolkata Police Commissioner, all DCPs, SPs and OC and IC grade officers that if any such explosives are found or if anyone uses intimidation tactics in your jurisdiction, the concerned officer will have to take action,” an Election Commission official said.

He said that surveillance and area dominance will be intensified in sensitive areas to ensure that voters cast their votes without any fear.

The first phase of elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly was held on April 23 and the second phase will be held on April 29. The results will be declared on May 4.
