Pune, July 08: A huge pile of garbage fell on a three-storey building in Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune district on Wednesday, causing the building to collapse and at least 16 people are feared trapped, a senior official said.


The incident took place in Moshi and the building was being used as a waste processing office of a private company on behalf of a civic body, officials said.

“An administrative building. It is located next to a mountain-like pile of garbage. Primarily, it seems that due to heavy rain, the garbage pile loosened and collapsed on the building,” said Vijay Suryavanshi, Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. He said 16 employees of the private company are inside the building.
He said teams from the National Disaster Management Force, fire brigade and ambulances have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.
