Baruipur girl rape-murder case – Accused who tried to escape dies in police encounter

Kolkata July 08: A prime accused in the rape and murder case of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, West Bengal, was killed in a police encounter early Wednesday morning.

The incident took place when he tried to escape from police custody during a crime scene reconstruction, police said.

According to police information, the accused was taken to Suryapur area of Baruipur on Tuesday night as part of the investigation into the case. During the investigation, he snatched a gun from a police personnel and tried to escape.

Officials said that the accused opened fire on the police while trying to escape.

The police retaliated in self-defense, and the accused was seriously injured in the gunfight. He was immediately admitted to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead due to non-compliance with treatment.

The accused was the prime suspect in the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. Investigators said that the accused was seen with the girl in a CCTV camera before the crime.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident and are examining all the developments leading to the encounter.
