Massive landslide in Wayanad – House-Church completely destroyed

Kerala: A landslide occurred in Wayanad’s Kalladi due to heavy rains, and many buildings including a bridge and a bus stand have been razed. Many workers are trapped in this disaster at the tunnel construction site, and rescue operations are underway.

Heavy rain has started again at the landslide site in Wayanad. People are being taken to a safe place from the landslide site. It is reported that the soil dug for the tunnel in this area has collapsed.

Bus stand covered in mud

A house and a church have been completely razed in the landslide. The bus stand and bridge at the site have also been covered in mud. It is reported that about 15 workers were inside the cabin.

6 workers rescued

It is suspected that a family running a pushcart shop in this area is also trapped under the mud. Currently, 6 workers have been rescued and admitted to VIMS Hospital in Meppadi. One of the six people is in a critical condition. All those admitted to the hospital are migrant workers.

Meenakshi Bridge

The landslide occurred near the Meenakshi Bridge in Kalladi, Wayanad. The incident took place at the same place where the work of the Wayanad-Kalladi tunnel was going on. The hill next to the bridge collapsed and fell on the construction site. Many more are suspected to be trapped under the debris. The two buses carrying the workers are also trapped under the mud.

Rescue operation

In the wake of the landslide, the Chief Minister has instructed the ministers to immediately go to Wayanad. CM V.D. Satheeshan held an emergency meeting with District Minister T. Siddique. He has also directed the team in Kozhikode to reach Wayanad to coordinate the rescue operation. The Chief Minister also spoke to the Wayanad District Collector on the phone.
