Rudraprayag landslide- one dead on the spot, two seriously injured

Dehradun: A massive landslide occurred in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, killing one person on the spot and injuring two others seriously.

The incident took place near Hanuman Barrier in Sonprayag area of Rudraprayag district, where a portion of the hill suddenly collapsed.

The people below were trapped under the debris due to sudden fall of rocks and stones from above.

One person died on the spot and another was seriously injured in this tragedy.

Rescue operation by SDRF and police:

The SDRF and police, who reached the spot immediately after receiving the information, carried out an emergency operation and rescued two people. However, it is learnt that one person trapped under the debris died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as a local citizen. The injured are said to be Nepalese nationals.

Similarly, the injured have been taken to MRP Sonprayag Hospital for treatment. After primary treatment, they have been referred to the district hospital for further treatment.

District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar informed, “Around 8 am, a sudden landslide of mud and stones from the hill. Two people were trapped under it. One of them was a local resident and the other was a person of Nepali origin. Both of them were taken to a nearby hospital. There, the local resident was declared brought dead by the doctors, he said.

After this incident, an atmosphere of anxiety has developed in the Sonprayag area. With the increase in landslides even before the monsoon season, the local administration has asked people to be extra cautious in the risk areas. Police and disaster management teams are monitoring the area and are checking for the possibility of further landslides.
