Mangalore, July 17: The murder of a young woman at B.C. Road bus stand in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday evening has shocked the entire state. Lavanya (21), a resident of Kakkepadavu, was the murdered young woman. The accused committed this heinous act for the trivial reason that she did not accept his love, and the police have taken him into custody near Vamanjoor Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

What happened?
The deceased Lavanya was working as a staff at a private nursing home in Kalladka. Both she and the accused Chethan are distant relatives and it is said that the accused had a one-sided love for the young woman. On Thursday (July 16) evening at around 6 pm, Lavanya was sitting in a KSRTC bus going from Bantwal to Kakkepadavu. At this time, the accused had come and sat next to her. Noticing this, the young woman called a relative and told him, “A young man is sitting next to her.” The call was then disconnected.
The young woman died without treatment
As soon as the young woman got down from the bus, Chetan chased her. When the accused took out a Talwar from her bag, Lavanya tried to run away. At this time, the accused fatally attacked Lavanya and fled the scene. As soon as the information about the incident came to light, Bantwal sub-division police officers, police inspectors of the city station and staff visited the spot and conducted an investigation. Lavanya, who was seriously injured, was immediately admitted to the Bantwal Taluk Hospital, but she died without treatment.
The accused who called her father
After committing the act, accused Chetan fled towards Mangaluru in his Alto car. Meanwhile, he is said to have called Lavanya’s father and said, “I have killed your daughter, now I will also end my life.” As soon as this information was received, the Bantwal sub-division police, alerted, formed a special team and intensified the operation. Based on the mobile network and CCTV footage, the accused was taken into custody along with the car near Vamanjoor Pacchanadi.
The riot had taken place a month ago.
According to police sources, a month ago, the accused Chethan had come to the hospital where Lavanya worked and created a ruckus. At that time, other hospital staff intervened and stopped him. However, an investigation is also underway to see if the fact that no official police complaint was filed at that time was a reason for this tragedy. Bantwal city police have registered a case and taken further legal action.
