Mumbai, July 17: Maharashtra’s driving license rules will change from August 1. From now on, a driving license will not be issued without a residence certificate. The Maharashtra government will make this major change regarding driving licenses from next month. If you live in Maharashtra and are thinking of getting a driving license, it is good to know these new rules. Providing a residence certificate will be mandatory to get a driving license in Maharashtra.

If this proposal gets final approval, this new rule will be implemented across the state from August 1. The government has said that this move will make the entire licensing process more secure and systematic. Incidentally, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak had recently proposed this new rule in the Assembly.
He said that this new policy has been formulated to make the licensing system completely transparent and efficient at the state level. The draft of this new rule has been sent to the Law and Justice Department for final approval. As soon as it gets the green signal, it will be implemented immediately.
What are the changes in the new rules:
The state transport department is planning to ask for a Maharashtra original domicile certificate from those applying for a new driving license. If this is implemented, it will be mandatory for candidates applying for a new driving license to submit this certificate. However, a final official notification regarding this rule has not been issued yet and it will come into effect only after the official announcement. These rules will be applicable only to Maharashtra.
