Moscow: A massive avalanche has killed 11 climbers on Mizhirgi Mountain in the Kabardino-Balkaria region of the Caucasus Mountains in southern Russia.


Six people were seriously injured. Six more climbers are missing and rescue operations are underway for them. The horrific scenes of the avalanche were captured on camera and have gone viral on social media.
A group of 33 climbers were climbing in the Bezengi Valley of Mizhirgi Mountain, which is about 5,000 meters high, when the avalanche suddenly collapsed around 5 pm on Sunday.
In this incident, 10 climbers managed to descend the mountain safely. An intensive search is underway for the six missing people, with more than 50 rescue personnel, including emergency services, and helicopters.
