Horrific accident at Ambenali Ghat – SUV falls into a thousand-foot deep gorge, 8 youths die

Raigad, May 25: A horrific accident occurred in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Monday morning when an SUV fell into a thousand-foot deep gorge, killing eight tourists.

The horrific accident occurred around 2.30 am today on the Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur road near Ambenali Ghat, one of the most dangerous areas of the Western Ghats.

The deceased youths were residents of Satara district and were travelling from Dapoli to Satara when the tragedy occurred, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Satara residents Ritesh Lokhande (22), Suhas Lokhande (20), Utkarsh Shingte (21), Nikhil Shingte (25), Mahesh Pawar (25), Aditya Salunkhe (21), Rajesh Katkar (35) and Ansh Chavan (19) of Ratnigiri.

According to preliminary information, the deceased 8 youths were travelling in a Scorpio SUV car. It is reported that the car lost control at a sharp bend in the road and fell into a deep gorge.
