Dr K. Chandrashekar of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Promoted as Professor

Puttur, June 1: Dr K. Chandrashekar, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physics at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, has been promoted to the rank of Professor under the Career Advancement Scheme of the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka. With this achievement, he becomes the first Professor of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur.

Dr Chandrashekar completed his Pre-University Course (PUC) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree at St Philomena College, Puttur. He subsequently obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees from Mangalore University. After qualifying the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for Lectureship, he began his academic career as a Lecturer at St Philomena College in 2000.

He was awarded a Ph.D. for his research thesis titled “Studies on Concentration of Radionuclides and Trace Elements in Some Selected Medicinal Plants.” His research contributions have been widely recognized, with several papers published in reputed national and international journals, many of which are indexed in prominent databases such as Scopus and Web of Science.

Dr Chandrashekar has presented research papers at numerous national and international conferences and serves as a referee for journals in the fields of science and environmental studies. As a resource person, he has delivered several lectures on scientific and general-interest topics.

Apart from his academic accomplishments, Dr. Chandrashekar has been actively involved in social service through the National Service Scheme (NSS). He currently serves as the NSS Programme Officer at St Philomena College (Autonomous). Recently, he represented Mangalore University as a Camp Officer at the NSS National Integration Camp held at the University of Mysore. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to NSS activities, he was recently honoured by the Lions Club, Puttur.

A native of Puncha Village in Bantwal Taluk, Dr Chandrashekar is the son of Laxmi and the late Mahalinga Moolya.
