Big relief for Imran Khan from court – order to shift to private hospital within 48 hours

Islamabad: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has got relief from the top court there. In view of the concerns about his deteriorating health, the court has ordered that the jailed Imran Khan be shifted to a private hospital within 48 hours.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and family had been making this demand for several days. They had expressed serious concerns about Imran Khan’s health, citing his latest medical reports in Adiala Jail.

Treatment in hospital till September 16

According to PTI spokesperson Naeem Haider Panjutha, the top court has directed that Imran Khan be kept at Shifa International Hospital till September 16. It has also ordered that his family members be allowed to visit him every week.

Medical Board Formation

The court has ordered the formation of a special medical board to review Imran Khan’s health. His personal doctor and sister Dr. Uzma Khan will also be members of this board. However, the court has directed his family and lawyers not to share the medical reports with the media or politicize the matter.

Increased health concerns

73-year-old cricketer-politician Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail since August 2023. Since last year, his sons have been constantly concerned about his father’s health, and Imran Khan’s vision in his right eye has deteriorated significantly while he was in jail, his lawyers said.

Cases against Imran Khan

After losing power, several cases have been registered against Imran Khan, including the government gifts (Toshakhana) case and illegal marriage. While some sentences have been suspended, some verdicts have been quashed, and the appeal hearing is still ongoing. However, Imran Khan had denied all the charges against him.
