Mangaluru: The Department of Ophthalmology, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, Father Muller Medical College under the aegis of SKOS successfully conducted the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Oculoplasty 360: From Blocks to Botox” at the AV Hall of the institution on June 7, 2026.
The CME brought together ophthalmologists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, postgraduate students, and delegates from various institutions for an enriching academic programme featuring expert talks, panel discussions, and cadaveric surgical demonstrations in the field of oculoplasty and ophthalmic anaesthesia.
The scientific sessions commenced with a talk by Dr. Jaichandran V V on “Ophthalmic anaesthesia: foundations to advances”.
The inaugural ceremony followed, with dignitaries escorted to the dais by Dr. Sarita R J Lobo, Organising Chairperson and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Dr. Dilon Denis Noronha, Assistant professor and Organising Secretary.
The dignitaries present included Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions; Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, FMMC; and Dr. Antony Sylvan Dsouza, Dean, FMMC. The Chief Guest was Dr. Jaichandran V V, , Senior consultant, Anaesthesiologist from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai while the Guest Speaker was Dr. Faraz Ali Mohammad, consultant ophthalmic plastic surgeon and Ocular oncologist.
The programme was presided over by Rev Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, FMCI, Mangalore.
Dr Sarita R J Lobo, Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of advancing academic collaboration and surgical training in oculoplasty. The Chief guests were introduced by Dr Sripathi Kamath, Professor, department of Ophthalmology. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Dilon Denis Noronha, Organising Secretary of the CME, who expressed gratitude to the management, faculty, guest speakers, delegates, sponsors and supporting staff for contributing to the success of the event.
Following the inaugural ceremony, Dr Faraz A Mohammad delivered two informative lectures on tips for guaranteed success in Dacryocystorhinostomy and correction of eyelid malpositions.
The CME also featured several insightful and interactive sessions by eminent faculty namely Dr Aravind L Rao, Professor and HOD of Plastic surgery, Dr Sunayana Bhat , Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Dr Prajna Shetty, Assistant professor, Department of Dermatology, covering various aspects of eyelid disorders, lacrimal surgeries, flaps and grafts for ophthalmologists, orbital procedures, and Botox applications in ophthalmology. Faculty members from various medical colleges of Mangaluru moderated the sessions.
Post lunch session featured a special cadaveric workshop for the postgraduate students which added significant hands-on learning value to the programme. The session was moderated by Dr Sunayana Bhat, Dr May D’Souza and Dr Dane Chandy. In addition, a hands-on session on regional blocks for eye surgeries was conducted led by Dr Jaichandran V V.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from delegates and postgraduate students from across the region. Delegates provided excellent feedback on the CME, appreciating its academic depth and organisation. The programme was recognised by the Karnataka Medical Council, and delegates were awarded two credit points for attendance.
