Actress Preity Zinta has moved the Bombay High Court seeking legal action against several websites, including Google and Facebook (Meta Platforms), for allegedly using her personal photos and videos to create deepfake videos using AI. The court has allowed the actress to file a comprehensive civil suit, alleging that her personality rights, copyright and reputation have been infringed upon, and the court has granted her permission.

Advocate Rohan Kadam, who appeared for the actress before a single-judge bench of Justice Abhay Ahuja on June 16, said that the defendants (Google and Facebook) have made deepfake images and videos of the actress available to the public through various online platforms. The actress’s lawyers have argued that such content violates her legal rights and is damaging her image in public.

Advocate Kadam told the court that since these controversial content is spread globally through digital platforms, its impact is very wide.
