New Delhi: Amid the ongoing student protests in India, Delhi Police has carried out a major operation and has identified and banned around 480 social media accounts from Pakistan that were spreading false and misleading information regarding the protests.
The police said that these accounts are spreading rumors to take advantage of the current situation in India and have appealed to students and the public not to believe any information without checking it. Delhi Police, which has released a video message in this regard, said that misinformation is being spread on social media, in which many accounts from Pakistan have been found to be involved.
“It has come to our notice that some misinformation is being spread on social media. More than 400 Pakistani accounts have been identified so far, which were taking advantage of this situation and spreading false content and rumors. They are being blocked,” the police said.
The police said that the same accounts that were active during the previous ‘Operation Sindoor’ are still spreading fake news. The main objective of these accounts is to incite people and divert the attention of students amidst the protests, Delhi Police said.
“Their only objective is to incite people and mainly to mislead students. In the interest of child safety, I request you not to get influenced by any fake posts, edited videos or fake news shared by anonymous accounts,” Delhi Police officials requested.
