Mangaluru: Two accused who allegedly attempted to murder a police personnel by attacking him with a cement sheet while he was on night beat duty have been arrested by CCB police in Kanhangad, Kerala.
The arrested have been identified as Sachin K.R. (24) from Belthangady and Chandan (24) from Puttur. The duo was staying in a rented house at Ashok Nagar in the city and were working respectively as a sweets factory driver and a showroom technician.
According to police, the incident took place around 2:10 am on May 24 near Kodikal under the jurisdiction of Urwa Police Station. The accused were moving around on an electric scooter when beat police personnel stopped them for questioning.
Enraged by the questioning, the accused allegedly attacked the police personnel with a piece of cement sheet, striking him on the head and causing serious injuries before fleeing from the spot.
A case was registered at Urwa Police Station under charges of attempt to murder and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty.
Treating the case seriously, the CCB police launched an investigation using technical evidence and reliable leads, eventually tracing and arresting the accused in Kanhangad, Kerala, on May 26. The scooter used in the crime has also been seized.
The accused have been handed over to Urwa police for further legal proceedings.
