What are the main objectives of this plan:
Escape from the dangers of sea routes: Currently, trade between Russia and India is carried out through waterways. But due to the tension of war in West Asia, security risks have increased in key global shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Bosphorus Strait. Russia aims to create a safe land route as an alternative.
Trade growth and energy security: India and Russia aim to take bilateral trade to $100 billion (over ₹8.4 lakh crore) by 2030. The rail line will help in the rapid and seamless delivery of Russian crude oil, coal and fertilizers to India.
Cost and time savings: By expanding the existing International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) multimodal network, it will be possible to transport goods at a cost of 30% less and 40% faster than the traditional Suez Canal route.

No official construction date or details of passenger train service have been finalized yet. Diplomatic tensions in the region and tense relations between India and Pakistan pose major challenges to the project, especially since the line would pass through Afghanistan and Pakistan. In addition, the difference in the size of railway tracks in different countries could pose technical difficulties.
