Washington, May 25: A man who opened fire near a White House security checkpoint was shot dead by officers, the US Secret Service said. This is the third shooting incident in the past month when President Donald Trump was there.

It said that a man in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue pulled a weapon from his bag and started shooting. Secret Service officers returned fire, hitting the suspect. He was later taken to a hospital, but the agency said he died.
The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best. According to District of Columbia court records, Best was arrested in July 2025 for attempting to enter another White House checkpoint without permission. He did not comply with officers’ orders to stop. He also said he wanted to be arrested by calling himself Jesus Christ.
A preliminary hearing in the case resulted in a pre-trial stay-away order. Typically, this order instructs a defendant to stay away from a specific person or area before trial. The court then issued a non-compliance notice against Best in August, and the court issued an arrest warrant. He did not appear at the subsequent hearing, the records show.
