Bengaluru, Aug 21: Bengaluru Police have stopped and inspected a car carrying Rs 9 crore in cash on the outskirts of the city.


On August 18, information was received from Jagadish, Deputy Director of Unit-22 of the Income Tax Department in Bengaluru. The police had received information that a huge amount of cash was being transported illegally in a Hyundai Creta car with registration number KL 20 T 8629, and based on that, a raid was conducted.
The car was heading from Bengaluru to Hosur in Tamil Nadu. At around 10.30 pm, after crossing the Electronic City Expressway toll plaza on Hosur Road, the Beat police of Electronic City Police Station stopped the car near the signal. Later, the car and the two people in it were taken to the police station.
One of them has been identified as 42-year-old Sachin, associated with Sindhu Jewellers in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The identity of the second suspect was not immediately known. Both were taken into custody by the Income Tax officials.
When the Income Tax officials inspected the car, they found Rs 9 crore in cash in the form of Rs 500 denomination notes in a suitcase. Later, further searches conducted at places linked to the suspects in Tamil Nadu resulted in the discovery of an additional Rs 1.3 crore in cash.
The Income Tax Department has launched an investigation to trace the source of the money. The investigation is ongoing.
