Delhi: Today, most households own either a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler. The fact that at least 32,000 motorists in India obtain a new driving license daily highlights just how essential vehicles have become for everyone. The Transport Department has now made it mandatory to link a mobile number to your driving license. While some have not linked their numbers at all, others have retained outdated numbers; consequently, linking a currently active mobile number has been made compulsory.
Although social media posts claim that September 25 is the deadline for linking mobile numbers, the Transport Department has issued no such official notification. The date currently going viral is incorrect. However, it is advisable to update your mobile number as soon as possible, as it would not be surprising if an official deadline is announced soon.
Why this rule?
To ensure road safety and transparency, the Central Transport Department has issued new guidelines making it mandatory to link a currently active mobile number with one’s driving license. It has come to the department’s notice that mobile numbers are often missing from older driving licences or that the numbers previously provided are no longer in use. In light of this, the requirement has been made mandatory.
