Petrol, diesel sale in bottles, cans banned – action against petrol stations for violating rules

This step has been taken in the interest of consumers and for safety reasons, and important instructions have been given to fuel distribution centers (Retail Outlets).

The concerned officials have been instructed to strictly implement this guideline of the department and it has been informed that strict action will be taken against petrol stations that violate the rules.

What is in the guideline?

As per the Petroleum Rules 2002, fuel stations should fill fuel only into the tanks of vehicles or authorized containers. A maximum limit of 200 liters has been imposed for this.

Petrol and Diesel should be supplied only to the tanks of vehicles. For safety reasons, supplying fuel in bottles, cans or any other unauthorized containers is completely prohibited.

Retail outlets should not carry out bulk fuel operations. Such transactions should be carried out only through ‘Direct Sales Mechanisms’. If bulk sales are made in violation of the rules, serious action will be taken, such as cancellation of license.

Officials should ensure that there is no disruption in the supply of diesel required for agricultural activities and aquaculture. It has been advised to check the demand of farmers and ensure appropriate distribution of fuel.

If there is any irregularity in bulk operations, it will be considered a serious violation of safety and licensing rules.
