Jerusalem, Oct 10: Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced that Indian pilot Captain Smith Machhar will be honored with the country’s prestigious ‘Presidential Award for Civil Heroism’.

He is receiving this honor for averting a potential catastrophe on a Flydubai flight through his extraordinary courage and presence of mind.
President Isaac Herzog made this significant announcement during an official ceremony held in Jerusalem.
President Herzog stated that Indian pilot Smith Machhar would be presented with the ‘Presidential Award for Civil Heroism’, one of Israel’s highest honors for civilian bravery.
In a separate statement released by the Office of the President of Israel, Herzog expressed his gratitude to the Indian pilot. He conveyed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Captain Smith Machhar on behalf of Israel, noting that the pilot’s determination and timely actions helped neutralize an attacker and saved many lives. Herzog has praised Machar’s courage and determination while wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
Many global leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and US President Donald Trump, have lauded Machar’s act of bravery.
